location

Anderson Bay sits on the East Mahurangi Peninsula terminating at the historic and picturesque Scotts Landing. Just under 1hrs drive north of Auckland central. Most holiday makers and Auckland day trippers make their way out to the now popular Matakana or onto the surf beaches Omaha, Parkiri and Tarawhanui leaving Scotts Landing very much to the locals to enjoy. Anderson Bay is on a tar sealed road with school bus at the gate. Normal amenities such as schooling, banks retail and supermarkets are all available at Warkworth (15 mins drive), or the Snells Beach Shopping centre only 5 mins away. Warkworth can also be accessed by boat from the bottom of the garden. It is 15 mins to the jetty in the middle of town! In fact the whole of Kawau Bay and Hauraki islands are accessible from the Mahurangi inlet.

The sweeping drive brings you down to an ample parking area and studio/ garaging. The driveway continues past the entrance of the main house down to the waters edge and private boat ramp. Two solid kauri columns flank the large entrance portico. Entry is through a pair of leadlight doors. The rimu panelled entrance hall with inglenook fire is double height (7m) with a serpentine galleried staircase. The floors are rich polished kauri as is throughout most of the house. The staircase is lit by day by a double height leadlight window and by night, a large French gilt lantern. Once upstairs the landing opens onto a massive roof terrace with an open fire for winter nights and views stretching up the inlet. The upstairs floor has a 3m stud. There are 4 bedrooms, 2 with ensuite. The master bedroom ensuite opens to a private sunroom. There is a large music/sunroom entered from either 2nd bedroom or inner hall. Guest bedroom with French doors opening onto roof terrace. Guest bathroom.

Downstairs has a 4m stud. The main drawing room is entered from the entrance hall through a pair of paned rimu doors. This room has a bay window, and panelled inglenook fireplace. From the entrance hall a wide inner hall leads down past the office and sitting room with panel fireplace and french doors opening onto the deck. Beyond this is the large family room/kitchen. This room really expresses the volume of the house. On the east side windows slide away for the morning sun. Large french doors open to the north for all day sun and french doors to the west for sea views and sunsets. Beside the enclosed iron fire is a butlers kitchen/pantry and a bathroom. The house is fitted with antique French and English lighting and all bathroom fittings in period style were imported from Britain to complete that country house feel.

The covered verandas wrap around almost the entire house with a depth of 2 - 4 meters where needed for entertaining. All decking is level with the lawns to step onto. Grass paths lead down to terraces until reaching the waters edge and boat ramp. The gardens and walkways are edged with a local stone and planted with New Zealand natives. The studio garaging comprises of three car parking with room beside and behind for boats etc.

The studio is self-contained and at far end houses a laundry/wet area with W.C and shower ,sink etc. This building was designed and built in scale to compliment the house. It has a V sided bay window with same under bracket as found on the front of the main house. All the joinery was hand built in native timbers by local craftsmen. The studio has a high stud, wood burning fire, gas points, ample natural light and sea view.
